This is my collection of favorite ideas for front gardens.
It is a part of the community. Your front garden is what everyone sees when they return home after work. While you are working on it, you can chat with your neighbours.
The front garden has an impact on the environment. The RHS Greening Grey Britain Campaign aims to stop people from paving over their gardens in order to create parking. The campaign also offers good suggestions for people who are looking to create a space, but don’t mind sharing it with a plant.
You should always consider the architectural style of your home. It is possible to echo or complement it in the front garden. You can choose to do so. The architecture of the house will have a greater impact on the front yard than the backyard.
Check out these ideas for low-maintenance front gardens.
Here are some examples of front gardens which will make people smile when they pass by. All of them are (almost all) easy to do yourself, and not costly.
Front garden of a horticulturalist
Your front garden can be a great place for displaying your plants if you love them. The garden in the picture below is just one of four in a line near Faversham. The four gardens are all different, but each is beautiful.
The formal front yard
The next of the four gardens is this one. The garden has a formal, classic design and it is mainly planted with lavender. Its duck egg-blue front door complements the blue lavender.
Color coordinated front garden ideas
This ‘row’ of gardens shows a great use of color. The front door colour matches that of the gate in this garden. The box for the electricity meters is painted in the same colour. The front door’s side is also painted the smart, blue-grey color. Color harmonisation is one of many front garden ideas that are cheap, easy and effective.
Simple front yard planting using only one type of plant
The last garden in the series. The front garden is relaxed and easy, with Erigeron Karvinskianusalso known as Fleabane. It looks like it’s frothing everywhere. One of the easiest and most efficient front garden ideas is to plant just one type of flower, like this daisy.
Front garden with topiary ideas
This garden is not cheap or easy, but it shows how topiary works in the front garden. Markets sell box and yew, which you can use to grow topiary.
Select your garden path keeping the home in mind
You should have a path made of yellow bricks if you own a house with yellow bricks. This is so easy to overlook. It’s important to keep in mind that the entire front yard should be coordinated, including the color of the door, the garden gate, the pathway, and any planting.
What to do with your driveway?
Consider what materials you can use to landscape a garden large enough for a vehicle to be parked. Your driveway can be made more beautiful and eco-friendly. Use permeable materials or a mixture of materials.
Run-off is a major concern when it comes to permeable pavement. Many front gardens have been covered with paving in cities and towns. When it rains heavily, water cannot be absorbed into the ground. The water rushes into the drainage system of a town, which becomes overloaded and can cause flash floods.
As part of the Young Landscapers Award, Professor David Stevens created two front gardens that included parking spaces in the BBC Gardeners World Live 2019 show. The landscapers were divided into two teams and judged by how well they executed the design. The traditional garden had a theme, while the contemporary one was more modern. The paving in both front gardens was a mixture.
